Christian Foundation
As St Luke's Grammar School seeks to serve the students and their families, we are always aware of the School's foundation and motto: "Christ our Light".
As a Christian school, we rejoice in the educational endeavour to discover, understand and celebrate this world that God has made.
Engaging with spiritual questions will always be part of the School program. The academic curriculum set down by the NSW Board of Studies largely ignores issues of human spirituality and that is entirely appropriate. However, education involves much more than preparation for examinations, so we encourage our students and teachers to engage with issues of spirituality and belief as they arise in their subjects and in their lives, and to discuss their various views with gentleness and respect. (1 Peter 3:15)
The Chaplaincy Department at St Luke's continues to engage with the whole person: mind, body and spirit. Outside of the classroom, students are encouraged to be involved with the many activities of community service and social welfare that reflect Jesus Christ's model of love for our neighbours both near and far. Lives continue to be changed as students get together in various groups to explore spiritual truths and to discover what difference belief will make to their actions.
Weekly Chapel services are an opportunity to grapple with thorny issues or to hear from a range of people about the impact of faith on living.
Public prayer continues to be a part of school life at St Luke's. There is something special about coming together as a School community to praise God and to ask for help. Students and staff are welcome to say "Amen" if the words we pray are words they would like to echo to God.
Over all of this sits the Bible as the focus of our discussion about the nature of God and as our encouragement for how we should live.
Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tender-hearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Make allowance for each other's faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony. And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are called to live in peace. (Colossians 3:12-15)
