Charities
St Luke's Grammar School is involved in supporting a number of different charities throughout the school year.
On average, students raise $10,000 each year for World Vision and the Cancer Council - Leukaemia Foundation. The School also supports Anglicare, the Salvos, the McGrath Foundation and a range of other charities. Fostering a culture of generosity is an important educational goal for the School.
The staff and senior students at the school are also involved in Movember, raising awareness and funds for men's health issues.
Another important charity program in the School is the annual Bike for Bibles Ride. This trip has expedition and fundraising components. Students organise sponsorships to recognise their commitment to ride from Kiandra to Kosciuszko, which takes them through remote alpine wilderness. Now in its twenty-second year, the School has raised over $200,000 for world literacy.
Late in 2010, a group of 15 St Luke's students and staff headed to Indonesia after being invited by Compassion to assist staff at the Wangurer Child Survival Program to care for the babies and educate their mothers. This tour resulted in the students gaining experiences that will contribute considerably to their balanced development. The students also returned home with much to celebrate. Not only did their time in Indonesia change them personally, they also made a difference to the lives of those less fortunate, contributing $15,000 in donations for continued work in the community. This trip to Indonesia is the newest addition to the St Luke's mission trip program.
