Curriculum
All students are encouraged to explore the Christian faith while at School. This is done formally through all students in Years 7 - 12 having a lesson of Christian Studies each week.
In Years 7 and 8 (Stage 4), all students take English, Mathematics, Science, History and Geography (Year 8) and either French or Indonesian for the two years. Additionally, all students take Visual Arts, Music, Personal Development, Health and Physical Education, Sport and Technology.
In Years 9 and 10 (Stage 5), students undertake the School Certificate core subjects (English, Mathematics, Science, History and Geography) in addition to two elective subjects which are chosen at the start of Year 9 and undertaken for two years. Current elective choices include Commerce, Drama, Music, French, Indonesian, Information and Software Technology, Design & Technology, Industrial Technology, Marine Studies, Physical Activity and Sports Studies, and Textiles Technology. Students are also able to study other languages through the Open High School.
In Years 11 and 12 (Stage 6), the Board of Studies sets requirements for the award of a Higher School Certificate and an Australian Tertiary Admissions Index. Each student undertakes a minimum of 12 units in the Preliminary Course in Year 11 and is encouraged to undertake at least 11 units in the Higher School Certificate Course in Year 12. A diversity of subjects is offered each year.
Students may also study other foreign languages by correspondence through the Open High School or through the Saturday School Language classes. TAFE courses may also be undertaken.
Programs for Learning Support and Gifted and Talented Education (Headland Program) are established and supported throughout the School. Learning Support programs operate both in class and through withdrawal. The Headland Program caters for identified students through withdrawal lessons, enrichment programs, mentoring and external camps and workshops. Additionally, extension and accelerated classes can be offered as necessary.
The purpose of the curriculum structure and offering is to fulfill both the requirements of the Board of Studies and to engage students in a rich and rewarding learning experience. The use of technology within the School supports this purpose.
