  • St Luke's student stars in new film just days after completing the HSC

    1 December, 2011

St Luke’s Grammar School recent graduate, Madi Busch, has barely finished her HSC before taking off to work in the new movie, Dead Moon Circus, currently being filmed around Sydney.  The movie, which is a darker appropriation of the Sailor Moon manga series, has Madi playing the supporting role of Ami Mizuro who transforms into the crime-fighting heroine Sailor Mercury.

Accomplished actress Madi has been working in theatre and films since the age of five, and combined it with her school studies, which for the HSC, also included Drama.

“What I love about the whole acting profession is the fast paced nature of the industry and the constant change. I love delving into the lives of other characters and the thrill you get when you finally understand their life along with the decisions they make”

This has been reinforced by Madi’s studies in the US over the past few years. During the last Christmas holidays, she participated in the Hollywood Immersive Program in Los Angeles, run by Melbourne based casting director Lilly Dawson. The international program, which aims to connect and inspire performers from around the world, allows actors to train at the prestigious Margie Haber studios in West Hollywood.

“For someone like me, based in Australia, the international program offers performers to engage directly with top industry professionals along with acting and voice coaches. I had the incredible opportunity to meet with agents, managers and working actors such as Eva Mendes and Gregg Sulkin who shared their advice on the industry.”

“This certainly has helped me both with my Drama studies, and in auditioning for work back in Australia,” she said. “Not only did the program give me the skills to land the movie role, but it also allowed me to make industry connections which are priceless.”

Madi is also dedicated to her sports and in 2011 was the St Luke’s Basketball Captain and Netball Captain. “What I loved most about St.Lukes was the community feeling of the school. I was lucky enough to have some really inspirational teachers who were always supportive and genuinely cared.”

When the HSC results arrive in mid-December, Madi will still be working on the film but is hoping to continue studying acting both In Australia and America.
