The following report is by Lily Bowman, Year 11
We started the tournament with no expectations, as we had only competed previously as a team in the local competition. However, this time we wanted to step out of our comfort zone and challenge our abilities so that we would be fighting fit for the upcoming State Cup.
Our first game was against Roseville College which we started off tentatively as we had some team members missing, or feeling unwell. Despite this, we were thrilled to win by 29-19. We knew our next game was going to be our toughest as we were versing Pymble Ladies' College, a long term rival. At half time we were down 14-12, when Timothy Hill, our amazing coach, motivated us to a win of 31-14, including a second half in which PLC were unable to score.
After a third game versing Queenwood, we then found out we had made it through to the final. Our energy levels were a little depleted going into the Grand Final but team spirit was high. It ended up being an extremely close game with St Luke's winning 31-30. We were down by one point with seven seconds to go, and fortunately made two free throws off a foul from a layup.
All in all it was a fabulous experience to venture out of our usual stadium. We are all
super keen to compete in State and hopefully Nationals. The wonderful trophy is proudly displayed at School!
