Middle School studentsMIDDLE SCHOOL > YEAR 6 - YEAR 9

St Luke's Middle School caters for students in years 6 to 9. Our Middle School has a clear brief for the specific and unique needs of the older child and young teenager at a time when there are profound changes in their physical, intellectual, social and emotional development.

The transition from Junior School to Senior School is facilitated by providing close adult-child relationships and by promoting strong links among students, family and school.

The Atrium was constructed in 2005 and is at the heart of the Middle School providing display, performance and meeting areas plus the Middle School staff room and Head of Middle School office.

Years 6 through to 8 are divided into Home Groups, mentored by Home Teachers and attached to Home Rooms creating a strong sense of belonging. Year 9 is divided into Tutor Groups, mentored by Tutors and follows the Senior School pattern of movement.

St Luke's Middle School seeks to foster a joy of learning and an appreciation of academic excellence. Both Gifted and Talented Programmes and Learning Support operate in the Middle School.

We promote character development encouraging the building of a sense of connectedness and student resilience by the use of various programs including:

  • How to relate in positive relationships - video workshops, Brainstorm Production plays etc;
  • Learning how to learn - inhouse program; and
  • Rock and Water - character development teaching respect for one another.

Students in each year benefit enormously from holding positions of leadership and responsibility ranging from public speaking and organisation of assemblies, raising money for charity to holding positions of Middle School and House Captains.

Our aim is that when students graduate from Middle School, they have a keen understanding of their style of learning, the world around them and how they may make a difference.
