Home-schooling has been a challenging time for all of us, especially for some of the younger students who are having their first lessons on a computer. Sometimes it can be hard, like when you have a question and you can’t ask the teacher, or if you are having problems with Zoom, but it can also be fun and stimulating. When home-schooling, we mostly use our Resilience muscle by:
- Persevering to adapt to different learning environments.
- Learning to manage our distractions more, because it is harder to focus when you don’t have your teacher and peers around to remind you to keep doing the work. It is even harder when you have more distractions in your home than in your classroom!
- Noticing when things aren’t going right at home and when we need to ask the teacher for help.
- Being absorbed while listening to the teacher because if you don’t hear the instructions, it is harder to ask for help.
I also enjoy home learning because the teachers make fun days like crazy hat and favourite colour day! It is fun seeing my friends on Zoom with funny backgrounds and filters. Thank you, teachers!

Term 3 didn’t go as expected! I was sad that I wouldn't be able to see my friends and although we couldn’t go into the classroom, the teachers have been great at making sure online learning has been as fun as possible. One good thing about online learning has been being able to do my work at my own pace and get snacks whenever I want! I have also had my dogs beside me when I learn and it’s nice to be with them all day. I can’t ask for help as easily as I would be able to if I was at School, but the teachers are always online and available to answer our questions if needed.
I used my resourcefulness to help me during this lockdown by using this time to connect with my family more and used Zoom to keep in touch with my friends. I am very lucky with where I live and have been able to go out to the beach often to improve my surfing over this period. |
