Staff Spotlight: Daniel Petkovski

Mr Daniel Petkovski | Head of Football | 16 May 2022

Introducing St Luke's Grammar School's new Head of Football, Daniel Petkovski. Daniel is currently a Teacher’s Aide and he plays football (Captain) for Rockdale City Suns Football Club – Ilinden. Prior to his time at Rockdale, Daniel played for Sydney FC (2011-2014). Daniel represented Australia at multiple footballing tournaments, was part of the young Socceroos and also part of the under 20’s World Cup qualifying team. Daniel will be working with the Sport Department to further develop our Football program from Cottage to Year 12. A parent and student survey in 2020 showed Football (Soccer) as our second most popular sport (after Basketball), and employing a Head of Football allows for the School to build a professional program to provide an excellent experience for our students.

Why are you excited to start in your role at St Luke's Grammar School?

I’m excited to start my role at St Luke’s because I have a huge passion for football, not only playing it, but also coaching it. To be given the opportunity to do so, at a school like St Luke’s, it’s a huge honour and I strive to help the students grow in their football skills.

What do you love about your role in the school?

I’m excited and love the opportunity to build a positive and successful football environment for the St Luke’s students. I also want to help the students grow as footballers and also help them understand the game of football.

What can you be found doing when you’re not working?

I play football on the weekends, as I am a current semi-professional footballer myself. I play at Rockdale Ilinden Football Club, in the First Grade NSW NPL1 competition. I also love spending time with family and friends, watching the Sydney Roosters play!

If you could be any animal in the world, what animal would you be and why?

A lion, as lions are a symbol of strength & courage and also they’re the coolest looking animals.
