The Power of Gratitude

“Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realise that they were the big things.” ~ Robert Brault
This quote by Robert Brault, symbolises the importance of Gratitude and how useful it can be to focus on all the small but wonderful things that you have in your life. Gratitude can be defined as, being grateful and wanting to express your appreciation or thanks. However, we believe that Gratitude means much more. Gratitude is about seeing all the positive things that are in your life and being actively appreciative of what you have. Some studies have found that expressing what you are thankful for, can make you feel happier and more comfortable in your own life and improve your overall well-being.

During the past few weeks that we have been on Campus, the Bayview students have been creating a ‘Positivi-tree’. This tree was bare just last week, but students were encouraged to think about what Gratitude means to them. Some students have written tips and positive messages displaying gratitude. Our Positivi-tree is now filled with leaves that have a variety of grateful messages written on them. The tree now stands at the front of the Bayview Campus, where everybody can view it and feel inspired by the positivity of everyone in the school.

Below are some tips to cultivate and apply gratitude in your own life:

  • Keep a Gratitude Journal and write down the things that you are appreciative of.
  • Remember the difficult times, as they will only help you grow in the end.
  • Share your Gratitude by saying thank you whenever you can.
  • Smile - Smiling activates endorphins.

As the 2021 Bayview School Captains, we hope that this small practice of gratitude will encourage you to think about cultivating Gratitude practices in your own way.
